This is a picture of the bloody moon from a couple weeks ago.A moon where the sun blocks out the moon for a couple hours.I stayed up from 2 to 6 watching this solar eclipse and this was the best picture i was able to take.I started to think what would be the best way to express this look on stage.Would it be with a wash over the stage with Franels expressing the ever growing moonlight from the the sun leaving its area or would it be better to use a Franel as moonlight and a sure four to be the distinctive lines representing the sun and its edges throughout its motions.Would you even be able to tell.Would i have to use different intensities to differentiate between the moon and the sun or maybe gels would be better for this. The moon was supposed to have a red tint to it that night but sadly it never came but it would have been interesting to see and decide what color swatches to use to represent a red moon.Especially depending on what type of amber or red too use as the moonlight. What type of world would that represent.A crazed place where demons had just risen from the ashes of hell or maybe somewhere where someone epic had just died under a red moon.I could see this image or setting being used for a plethora of instances.Another question or situation i could see myself having an issue with is making the moonlight a soft light but keeping the rst of the stage dark maybe barnyard doors on a franel though from there the audience would be able to ascertain the fact it was an eclipse.MAybe if the color got relatively darker every couple minutes. How would I light the actors what would be the best way without breaking the ambiance of there eclipse.

Great commentary! I missed the blood moon! There are so many ways you could create a blood moon on stage. It's hard with the eclipse factor though, you might need scenery to help you actually have something that represented the physical moon on stage too. I love the image of the red, more demonized version of a blood moon too. Powerful par cans in a very theatrical red could produce a really scary blood moon feel, as long as the stage was dark I think. Great!
